Home : Moving Tips : Warehouse Storage
From Moving.com Page : 1 2

Warehouse storage is a perfectly viable option if you have large furniture, lawn chairs, boxes of out-of-season clothing or other bulky items that you seldom use but are not ready to give away.

Contact an independent storage facility or a moving company that has a state-of-the-art facility of its own. An inspector will come to your home for a free estimate to determine the size and cost of your storage need.

Before your items are transported to the facility, a warehouse crew will arrive to wrap and prepare all items that will be placed into storage. Your items are individually wrapped in protective moving pads or shrink-wrapped in plastic, in the cases of couches and rugs, and stored and sealed within large wooden containers known as "vaults" or "pallets."

Many will provide free pickup if you agree to keep your items in storage for a certain length of time. You also have the option of delivering your items to the facility yourself and arrange for a container and inventory list to be prepared for your arrival.

Paperwork
At the time of pickup, the crew foreman will create a detailed inventory of the items and their condition at the time of pickup. The warehouse operators accept the responsibility for your items under a contract. In addition to the inventory, you are given a written contract that states where your items will be stored, the monthly rate for each vault that your items occupy, and the schedule and charges for services such as the retrieval of your items. You are also provided, free of charge, with a minimum valuation. The amount depends on each individual company. Ask about replacement coverage for your items.

All paperwork is completed and signed on-site, at your home. You never have to pay another visit to the storage facility, other than the inspection.

Each vault holds a similar capacity as a small room. Once they are sealed, they will never be opened without your consent. A truck transports the vaults and once they arrive at the facility, they are placed on warehouse racks for future identification and efficient retrieval.
